9 Best Weekend Treks From Delhi You Can Actually Do in Two Days

From Kashmiri Gate to a Himalayan ridgeline and back before your Monday alarm.
You do not need a week of leave to stand on a Himalayan ridge. From Delhi, the right overnight bus turns a regular weekend into a real trek. Board Friday evening, climb on Saturday, and roll back into the city by Sunday night. These are the weekend treks from Delhi we run most often, ranked by how cleanly they fit a two day window.
Every trek below sits within a 10 to 14 hour overnight ride of Delhi NCR. We have listed the one way road distance, the trek difficulty, the best months and a realistic budget so you can pick by your fitness and your free dates, not by whichever photo looked nicest on Instagram. New to Himalayan trekking? It helps to skim the official Himachal Pradesh Tourism advisories before you lock dates.
How a weekend trek from Delhi actually works
The trick is to travel while you sleep. A typical weekend looks like this: catch an overnight Volvo or HRTC bus out of ISBT Kashmiri Gate or Majnu ka Tila on Friday between 5 and 9 PM. You reach the base town by Saturday morning, trek up and camp, then descend on Sunday and take the return overnight bus the same evening. You are back in Delhi by Monday dawn, tired in the good way.
It works because the climbs themselves are short. None of the treks below needs more than one night on the mountain. The long part is the road, and you spend that asleep.

For transport and itinerary details on the Parvati Valley side, see our guide on how to reach Kasol from Delhi.
1. Triund, the perfect first trek
Triund, Dharamshala
If it is your first trek, start here. The trail climbs from McLeod Ganj through oak and rhododendron to a grassy ridge that looks straight onto the Dhauladhar wall. The path is wide and well marked, the gradient is gentle, and the sunrise over the snow line is the kind of thing that turns people into repeat trekkers. Camp on the ridge, watch the lights of the Kangra valley flicker on below, and descend easy on Sunday.

2. Kheerganga, hot springs at the top
Kheerganga, Parvati Valley
You climb through the Parvati Valley, past waterfalls and pine forest, to a natural hot spring sitting at the top of the trail. There is no better reward after a half day climb than easing into steaming water with the mountains in front of you. The base is Kasol, an easy hub to reach from Delhi.

3. Kareri Lake, the quiet alternative
Kareri Lake, Dharamshala
When Triund feels too crowded, this is where we send people. Kareri is a shallow freshwater lake fed by snowmelt, sitting under the Dhauladhar with a small temple on its bank. The trail follows a river most of the way, the camping is wide open, and you will share the lake with a fraction of the crowd. It asks a little more of your legs than Triund, which is exactly why it stays peaceful.

4. Nag Tibba, the closest real summit
Nag Tibba, Uttarakhand
The shortest drive on this list and the one true summit you can bag in a weekend. Nag Tibba tops out around 3,000 metres with a clear view of the Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini peaks. In winter the upper trail holds snow, which makes it the easiest snow trek to reach from Delhi. Great for groups who want the summit feeling without a punishing climb.

5. Bir Billing, trek plus paragliding
Bir Billing, Kangra
Bir is for the weekend where you want mountains without committing your whole body to a climb. Gentle forest walks, deodar campsites, monastery visits, and the option to launch off Billing on a tandem paraglider, one of the highest take off points in the country. Pair an easy trail walk with a flight and you have a weekend that does not feel like a workout.

6. Churdhar, the big one for fit legs
Churdhar, Sirmaur
The highest peak in the outer Himalayas and the most demanding trek you can sensibly squeeze into a long weekend. Churdhar rewards a hard climb with a 360 degree view that runs from the Sutlej basin to the snow giants beyond. Only attempt this one if you trek regularly. For everyone else, treat it as the goal to train toward once the shorter treks stop feeling hard.

That is six of our nine. We also run weekend versions of Prashar Lake, Hampta valley day routes and the easygoing Jalori Pass to Serolsar for groups who want something off the usual list. Tell us your dates and fitness and we will match you to the right one.

What to pack for a 2 day trek
Keep it light. You are carrying it uphill. Here is the short version we send every group before a weekend trek:
- Backpack: 30 to 40 litres, with a rain cover.
- Footwear: trekking shoes with real grip, broken in before the trip. Never new shoes on day one.
- Layers: one warm fleece or down layer even in summer, plus a windproof or rain shell. Mountain nights are cold year round.
- Essentials: a one litre water bottle, power bank, headlamp, sunscreen, a basic medical kit and a government photo ID.
- Leave at home: jeans, heavy gadgets and anything you would mind losing.
On a guided Nirvana trip, tents, sleeping bags, meals and the trek captain are all handled. You carry a day pack and your own warm layers. For a full breakdown, we are putting together a dedicated first trek packing guide in our Journal.
